Hanmer Springs is a alpine resort town in Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand. Travelling from Kaikoura the trip is 65 Kilometres, or travel over the spectacular Lewis Pass from the Westcoast.

The town is famous because of its popular hot springs, discovered in the 19th century. Hanmer Springs has a local resident population of 663.(2001)
There are two skifields close by, Hanmer Springs and Mount Lyford skifields.

There is a daily shuttle bus between Hanmer Springs and Christchurch. The information centre can also book transportation for visitors to the beautiful St James Walkway, located near the Lewis Pass.
Hanmer Springs is the gateway to Lake Tennyson and the Molesworth and Rainbow stations.
During summer it is possible to drive through the beautiful Rainbow Valley to St Arnaud - though 4 wheel drive vehicles are recommended. Guided tours are available.
